Chado - Japanese Tea Ceremony

Japanese Tea Ceremony is a practice that has been passed down from Ancient Japanese times. The Host prepares the Guest a bowl of Matcha tea for various occasions, and each occasion has its own designated utensils and method of serving the tea. The practice revolves around Japanese Zen practice, and Chado has been integral to my development since the 6th grade.

Why Tea?

Initially started due to my love for Matcha and traditional Japanese Sweets, my journey in Chado is rooted in the desire to reconnect with my Japanese culture. I chose to stop attending Saturday Japanese school in middle school to spend more time on my robotics endeavors, and my trips to Japan slowly diminished in frequency as I got busy over winter and summer breaks. Feeling disconnected from my Japanese identity, I wanted to partake in cultural experiences to stay connected. Chado has been that experience for me, studying under Soyu at Yusuian in Malibu, California. She has been an integral mentor to me since the 6th grade, and I have learned many life skills that can be applied outside of the tea room as well.
